Cheryl S.Hoggins is a first time author, who has long loved losing herself in the written word. An avid reader as a child, she now endeavors to pass on the magic of the imagination to the next generation. Born in the UK, she has travelled to and lived in several different countries and currently resides in France with her infant son and husband.
Tell us something about yourself.
I’m a 39 year old English woman. I’m married and have a little boy. In my spare time I love playing video games with my favourites being Overwatch and 7 days to die. I love to travel too and have lived in multiple countries but that’s on hold for the moment due to Covid.
How many books have you written? Which one is your favourite?
I’ve written a few children’s books but so far I’ve published one with another one waiting to be illustrated. I’ve also written and published a Young Adult fantasy novella and am currently working on the next in the series.
I’ve written 5 books (ish) and Stars for Sophie is my favourite. This is because of the length and how long it took to accomplish. It worked out better than I’d hoped for.
Books! Check them out!!!
A digitized edition of Cheryl’s grandfather’s wartime diary.
Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with unhealthy criticisms?
I read every single review I get. So far I haven’t had any unhealthy criticisms.
What would you like to tell readers who don’t leave a review?
Please leave a review! If it’s less than four stars, I’m more than happy to hear from them directly instead.
What are your favourite writing habits that you keep so close to yourself?
I’m not really sure I have any. Except that I read and reread my drafts over and over as I’m writing. I dont plan anything usually so I often have to go back and read the story as it’s being written to make sure it all makes sense.
If you could be someone famous, who would you choose to be?
I wouldn’t be anyone else famous. But I would have loved to have been able to chat with Sir Terry Pratchett.
Who edited your book and who did the beautiful illustrations? How did you select them?
I edited my own books. Natalia Burlaka is my illustrator. I chose her because she illustrated my brother’s book and I loved her style. She’s a wonderful person to work with.
What advice would you give to your future self?
I’m sure my future self is much wiser than me, or at least I hope she will be.
What makes you happy?
Chocolate, snow and Christmas make me happy. Sitting in front of a crackling fireplace with a hot chocolate and snow falling outside is my idea of bliss.
Whom do you like more Montgomery Moose or Sophie?
I couldn’t possibly choose. They’re both very dear to me.
How can readers and aspiring writers get to know about you and your works?
They can find me on Twitter @moosiemusings or on Facebook through Montgomery Moose and Friend’s page: https://t.co/mcdm3EBPT4 and my Author page: https://t.co/FGGa8ISGCv. I also have a website: meanderingmoose.wixsite.com
Montgomery Moose Makes A Friend – A Review
Montgomery Moose Makes A Friend by Cheryl and Natalia is a wonderfully illustrated children’s book. The story is about Montgomery or Monty as I love to call him. Every child is going to love Monty on his journey to find a true friend. Will he discover what he truly wished for? If you really want to know then you just have to read the book. I recommend this to all children because you’ll definitely find a good friend in Monty and you’ll love the illustrations too.

Stars For Sophie – A Review
Stars For Sophie, a young adult book by Cheryl, takes readers on a thrilling wilderness adventure. The very first book of the Hidden Kingdom series creates an absorbing thriller with more twists that will confuse you and amuse you at the same time.
Alone after the death of her mother, Sophie is sent to live with her estranged aunt. Surrounded by new dangers and unknown enemies, can she find the courage to find herself, or will she lose everything, again?
There are lots of amazing moments in this novel.
"A home is where mom is" struck in my mind and bled through my heart. It's so true. A house becomes a home only when mom is there to keep our eyes shining with happiness. Cheryl has won in conveying Sophie's confusion, courage and determination to solve the obstacles ahead of her at any cost. Sophie teaches us to find what we stand for and create our own destiny.
The characters are moulded in such a way that, they never leave our heart no matter what. Sophie, Eleanor, Claire, Fenn, Alexander, Lissy, Cora, Nisha and I can write names of every character. That's how the novel is close to heart. The emotional bonding between characters make us feel good throughout. Some of the social issues we have been facing for centuries are also touched in the book. This is Cheryl's first novel, but she has complete control of her story and her style.
To be honest I'm eagerly awaiting the next book of this Hidden Kingdom series. I would recommend this book to all those who love reading mystery or fiction, with a heart warming touch of love where promises never get broken.
