“What is it like being a girl?”
There’s more to being a woman than menstruation and chocolates. The world teaches you that being a woman is living in fear that your basic health care is not met enough. You are paid less than a man who does the same job. If you want a career uplift, you need to compromise a lot. You are out at night scared that you may get raped any moment. You dress up in clothes that prevent you from the eyes of those ‘rational animals’. You are sold to that one and only, the so called ‘happily ever after’ person you don’t know, by paying the buyer huge sum of money, gold and lot more after a few meetings and bargains. You are living in a world where your virginity is more important than your menstrual health.
Dear girls… Life’s a question mark ? No one’s supporting you ? Are you in a dilemma ? Don’t worry. You are never alone. Let’s connect to each other in words and thoughts.
Have you ever felt your life ruined already? Have you ever felt no one’s there for you ? Are you avoided by your loved ones whom you thought would stand by you ? Have you come across a situation where even your family doesn’t support your life ? Still carrying the scars of your memories and pain ? May be you were judged the moment you were born ; the way you looked like or your skin colour.
When you grew up, may be you were shamed for being skinny, fatty and many more. Have you ever thought that you would have lived a better life, if you were loved a bit more ? Are you still in the pain of your teen and youth years ? I feel the softness of your tears, and I feel mine too.
May be you are not loved enough. May be you are not given another choice. May be you are not considered. May be your skills and abilities are getting zero significance. May be others love your siblings more. May be they don’t seem to believe your strength when you come up; your talent when you show up. Or may be they won’t trust your words even when you pen it down with all your heart.
Open your eyes. Expose the double standards, the hypocrisy, the hate. Make choice not to stay silent. Because silence can’t exist if it’s not tolerated. Equality is accountability. It’s the education, the truth, the strong voices and the breaking down of silence.
Know your worth. You have so much going for you. Demand respect. Have confidence. You can only fake it until you make it for a little while. You have to believe you’re amazing. Settle for nothing less than what you deserve, ever. This isn’t something you can really give chances for. Set your standards early. You really have to get your standards known. Have your own life. Love your hobbies and interests. Be passionate.
You are not an object; you are not a product to be sold. You have a voice. Be the voice in the silence of oppression.
Dear men and women, boys and girls out there……My dear readers…
On this International Girl Child Day, let’s create a better world for her. Let her be. Let her be beautiful without any terms and conditions. Let her be happy that she’s a girl. Let her grow up to walk freely without being attacked. Let’s not put boundaries on her dreams. Let her learn, earn and live her life.
I Believe You
